Dousman, WI –
The Southern Kettle Moraine Horse Trail Association (SKMHTA) is hosting a “Share The Trails” event on Sunday, May 19th from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM just north of Eagle at the Scuppernong Trailhead at S58 W35820 Hwy ZZ, Dousman. This event is also sponsored by the Wisconsin Horse Council District 4.
This is an educational and social opportunity for all trail users to gather to ask questions and share information and ideas on safely sharing trails. With the addition of the expanded overflow parking area suitable for RV’s and horse trailers (made possible with a donation from SKMHTA for purchase of gravel), the Scuppernong Trailhead is now host to a variety of trail users, from hikers and skiers to horseback riders. SKMHTA hopes to educate users on safe trail sharing and encourage people to feel comfortable with horseback riders in the area.
This is a family friendly event and children are welcome to attend.
The newly completed warming shelter will be open for use and complimentary drinks, snacks and educational brochures and videos will be available. Several door prizes will be given away to attendees – including a $50 Backyard Bikes Gift Certificate. A number of horses and ponies – including a driving horse and cart – will be available to see up close, for petting, and for Question and Answer sessions. Lastly, “Dream-A-Horse” guided trail rides from Eagle will have trail horses on site and will offer a limited amount of ‘same day / first come-first serve’ guided trail rides for purchase.
SKMHTA offers equestrian activities in a social setting with support for horse trails and campgrounds in the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest. The club has completed a number of major improvements coordinated with WI DNR within the Kettle Moraine State Forest including adding electricity and horse corrals to Horseriders Campground in Palmyra, installing the Obstacle Course Loop on the Eagle trail system at Hwy S, along with hitching post, mounting blocks, and Porta-Potty installation throughout the trails. SKMHTA is always seeking suggestions for new projects, donations, and volunteers.
