SKMHTA (Southern Kettle Moraine Horse Trail Association) is a group of horse enthusiasts in southeastern Wisconsin, working with the DNR, dedicated to combining the fun of equestrian activities in a social setting with support for horse trails and campgrounds in the Kettle Moraine State Forest. Join in the fun of area equestrian activities with fellow horse lovers and ride and camp the 54 miles of beautiful trails.
Key projects the club has completed include: funding and installation of electricity at campsites and pavilion at Horseriders Campground; the Eagle Obstacle Course Trail; installation of trail signage, mounting blocks, hitching posts, and porta-potty throughout the Southern Kettle Moraine Trails. The group also conducts annual campground and trail cleanups, combined with fun rides, seminars, and more! New members, volunteers, sponsors, and donors are always welcomed!
In a joint effort with WI DNR in 2018, SKMHTA is proceeding with the initial phase of the long awaited Corral Project to further improve the equestrian camping facilities. The addition of permanent horse corrals at Horseriders Campground in Palmyra will encourage horse enthusiasts of all ages and experience levels by providing safe and secure containment areas for horses while camping. A gofundme page has been set up to help fund this project, with the total number of corrals to be determined by the donations received. https://www.gofundme.com/skmhta-horse-corrals-palmyra to donate or obtain more information on this project.
