An Invitation from the Friends of Governor Dodge-Equestrians

If you’ve been to Governor Dodge State Park, you know that it’s a great place to ride. The 22 miles of well-maintained bridle trails offer views of mature forests, peaceful meadows, and beautiful rock outcrops. There are two lakes at the park and plenty of opportunities to swim, boat, hike, and bicycle.

And a visit to Governor Dodge wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Stephen’s Fall, a lovely waterfall at the park. Located in Iowa County and the unique Driftless area of our state, Governor Dodge State Park is only about an hour from Madison. No matter where you live, we invite you to visit Governor Dodge State Park.

The Friends of Governor Dodge-Equestrians would also like to invite everyone to get involved with our group. We are proud of what we have accomplished since our beginnings in 2015. Our group has offered educational Kids’ Camps that were a big hit, as well as a “Share the Trails” Open House that was attended by over 250 park users last summer. We have had 3 major fundraisers and are excited about our June 3, 2018 “Deal Me In” Poker ride. We have made several improvements at Governor Dodge, including installation of mounting blocks throughout the park and a “comfort stop” at the day ride parking area. We have some exciting amenities planned for 2018. We are also working with the DNR to improve signage at the park in 2018.

Our group’s main goal is to replace the “temporary” equestrian campground with a new one that will truly welcome horse-riding enthusiasts, offering riders from across the region a better base from which to enjoy the beautiful trails at Governor Dodge. We have made great progress in bringing this dream to reality. We will be launching a major fund-raising campaign for a new campground and will need the support of the equestrian community.

On June 3, 2018 we will be hosting a fun day at Governor Dodge State Park. Riders (and hikers!) will collect poker chips as they explore a new route this year. The poker chips will be exchanged for playing cards after the ride, with the best poker hands winning cash prizes. A delicious picnic lunch and silent auction/raffle will follow.
